Chinese New Year – Year of the Wood Dragon 2024

Overview

The 2024 Yang Wood element represents a tree that has the character of being stubborn and sticking to principles. Yang wood is the number one Heavenly stem, it represents the head and the powerful leader. It is a tough tree that is upright and refuses to bow. So Yang wood people are known to be most stubborn and hard to compromise. However, they are kind, reliable and honest. When under attack and pressure, they will stand firm and fight and will not surrender or escape. As Wood conquers Earth, Earth represents Money to Wood people. Out of the 12 animals, each element Water, Metal, Wood, and Fire occupies 2 animals, but there are 4 Earth animals – Dragon, Dog, Ox and Goat. This means a Wood person will have double the chance of encountering Money than persons of other elements.

With the apparent stubborn and persistent character of Yang Wood, there is less chance to negotiate and compromise as people tend to stand firm and refuse to give up their principles. So there could be more chance of confrontation and conflict. It will be harder to come to a satisfactory resolution. However, there is still some chance of restraint as the Wood over Dragon is not a completely conquering relationship. There are wood, earth and water hidden inside the Dragon, and the wood and water are supportive of Wood (Day Stem). So there will be tough negotiations but both parties will still be able to come up with some kind of understanding and agreement at the end of the day.

As Dragon is a powerful earth element, earth disasters such as earthquakes, landslides, avalanches, the collapse of buildings, etc might occur. In Chinese Metaphysics, the Dragon is also considered as a storage of water, and the Dragon encounters Monkey and Rat will generate a massive amount of water. Hence there is a chance of water disaster during the Dragon year.

Energy in 2024

The Wood Dragon will still bring some optimism during the spring and summer season with the wood and fire effect but the atmosphere will turn dull and grey in autumn and winter before the boom coming in 2025. Hence some positive optimism returned in the first half of 2024 and the powerful wood and fire will generate optimism and recovery to the economy with international travelling and entertainment and prosperity resumed in many sectors. By August when the autumn season arrives, the fire and wood elements are getting weak and the economy experience slow down again but as fire will return in 2025 bringing an economic boom, the setback is temporary and will soon be over towards the spring season of Snake year.

To Keep Note of

The Dragon is considered a “Star of Arts” which will stimulate entertainment, art, beauty and other academic cultural business. It is advised to pay attention to mental health and to promote relaxation exercises such as Tai chi, yoga, and meditation. It is good to be patient and take a compromising and conservative attitude in solving problems. In 2024, inside the Dragon Earth, there are Earth, Water, and Wood but no fire element. As such the year 2024 is still lacking the Fire element which is the driving force behind economic activities. Fire is a symbol of happiness and positive energy in the Chinese 5-element system, Fire element is necessary to stimulate optimism and confidence.  When fire is totally absent, there will be less incentive and less drive for investment activities. The fear element of Water is still with us until it totally disappears in 2025 – the year of Snake. With the absence of Fire and the presence of storage of water, the economic recovery that we experienced in 2023 may slow down before the real fire element returns in the 2025 year of Snake. It will not be surprising that a more significant setback in the stock market may appear in the autumn and winter season of 2024.

Industries

2024 is expected to bring prosperity to the Metal and Wood industries. This is because Metal conquers Wood, so the Wood element is a symbol of money to the Metal industry, which includes banking, high tech, car, machinery, engineering, beauty and skincare.

The second-best industry would be Wood. As wood conquers the earth, the Earth Dragon means money to the wood industry. Wood industries are media, fashion, environment, and herbal medicine.

The Water industry sees Wood as productivity. So, the Water industries will also benefit from the growth and movement nature of Wood. Water industries are telecommunications, transport and shipping.

The Earth industry sees Dragon as serious competition, Earth industries are property, mining, insurance, and high-tech software.

The Fire industry such as restaurants, entertainment, finance, energy, and power generating, sees the earth as productivity.

In summary, the industries that will perform better in the year of the Dragon will be industries related to Metal and Wood elements. The other industries of Earth, Water and Fire will have to invest more efforts in 2024.

With the arrival of “Age of 9” in 2024, there is more attention on the development of metaverse business which includes cryptocurrency and NFT such activities are of a speculative nature and the market behavior is similar to the stock market. As such, its price level also fluctuates with confidence like the stock market.  Therefore, the fire element is essential for its prosperity. As fire is absent in 2024, the enthusiasm to invest in metaverse business and cryptocurrency may be cooling down towards the second half of 2024 like the stock market.

Health & Precautions

In 2024, as there is a total absence of the fire element this year, we have to be careful about sickness related to the heart and the brain or nervous system. Yang wood is the head, and the brain and it also represents growth and motion activities. When yang wood is under attack, if it is your important element, it may cause headaches, mental problems or motion sickness such as Parkinson’s.  Wood is related to the liver which in turn affects our eyesight, hair and moles. People who have yang metal in their birth year or day will be under clash against the yang wood in 2024. These may cause problems with limbs, skin, head or hair.

In Traditional Chinese medicine, the wood element represents the liver. It is also responsible for the growth and activities and motion of our limbs.  Yang wood also represents Tiger which is the travelling star for people born in the year or day of Dragon, Monkey and Rat. So, there is a tendency for people to be more keen to travel, move around and do exercise and sports. The Dragon is a wet earth element containing water and wood. However, such water hidden in the Dragon is weak, so it is still necessary to take supplements to support the water aspects after consulting your physician. As the fire element is completely absent, we also need to replenish the fire element to enhance blood circulation.

Awareness

People born in the year of the Dog will anticipate more travelling or movement such as changing jobs or moving house. For people born in the year of the Dog,  it is recommended not to travel directly towards the direction of the Grand Duke, which is the Southeast direction. People born in Dragon year (1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024) or Dragon Day should be aware of the self-penalty relationship with Dragon.

The animals that are combined with the Dragon Year are the Rooster, the Monkey and the Rat. These animals are in a year of harmony. However, such animal astrology is not totally reliable. For a more reliable assessment of one’s fortune in the year of the Rabbit, it is recommended that one checks all the animals in the full Four Pillars of Destiny.

FengShui

FengShui energies also change from year to year. Therefore, it is necessary to watch out for the reallocation of good and bad energies at the beginning of each year, so that we can take necessary precautions if some bad energy happens to arrive at important locations of our residences and offices.

In the year of the Dragon, the bad energy called ‘Five Yellows’ – symbolizing obstacles and misfortune, arrives in the West.

Tip: It is recommended that one hangs a metal wind chime in the West of the house after 4th February 2024 on a specific date and time to dissolve this bad energy. The worst months will be in April, July and January 2025.

Star 2, is a big money star, resides in the Southeast this year. Correct use of this sector could assist in generating wealth. Also, take good care of your health by maintaining a balanced diet if this location is used frequently.

Tip: If your living room, bedroom or kitchen is in this sector and has (2-5) combination stars, you can use metal items to mitigate its effects. It doesn’t need to be fancy. For example, a bowl of coins would do or hang a string of six metal coins in the affected area.

The ‘Grand Duke‘ this year is in the Southeast, hence it is not favourable to “move the earth” or make substantial construction/renovation work in this location.

It is also not recommended for one to sit with back against South as you will be sitting against the unfavourable energy called ‘Three Killings’.

Note: Hold off any planned renovations in the above-mentioned locations until next year and only begin renovations after carefully selecting a good date if you have to do it this year.

Southwest: Auspicious sector. From wealth boost to fame and recognition to love, marriages and starting families.

South: Avoid this sector; experience unfavourable effects on physical and emotional well-being.

North: Happy events, promotions, mentors, education.

East: Growth, self-improvement fostering positive change and increased travel.

Northeast: Seize office opportunities and be cautious of activating negative energies.

Northwest: Time for academics, artistic, and creative work while working in this sector.
