Chinese New Year – Year of the Water Rabbit 2023

Overview

The Year of the Rabbit embodies yin qualities, basically, the passive principle of the universe, which manifests in relaxation, fluidity, quietness, and contemplation but keep in mind even though the rabbit is gentle, quiet, tame, tender and kind, but it moves quickly and has a very clever mind. This year’s zodiac year starts on February 4th, 2023. The first day of the astrological year is different from New Year’s Day, which is derived from the Chinese lunar calendar and falls on January 22, 2023. The first day of the Chinese zodiac year is the first day of Tiger month (February). That is the day of the Start of Spring, also called Li Chun Day.

The Year of the Rabbit, 2023, in the Hsia calendar, is symbolized by two Chinese characters – with Yin Water sitting on top of the Rabbit which is the Wood element. So, Water helps Wood grow, right? Therefore, Yin Water Rabbit indicates that Wood is growing strong this year, and this pillar is called a producing pillar. Similarly, 2022 too, was Water over Wood, the same as 2023, but it was not peaceful, with the war between Russia and Ukraine, this is because of the aggressive nature of the Water Tiger elements.

In 2023, the elements will be configured in a supportive cycle that will assist in resolving conflict and enhancing international harmony. The main difference between 2022 and 2023 is that Yin water is by nature the “morning dew” and the Rabbit is by nature a “flower”. Essentially, it depicts a drop of water appearing on a flower’s petal early in the morning, so it is more moderate and peaceful. However, it does not mean conflict and war will totally disappear. Only that the fight may turn underground and secretive.

Energy in 2023

The Rabbit is a pure spring Wood element. It is described as a leaf or flower so it is not able to generate much fire like Tiger year. 2023 has pure Water and Wood elements and there is a total absence of Fire elements like the previous years 2020 and 2021. As Fire is a symbol of happiness and positive energy in the Chinese 5-element system, Fire element is necessary to stimulate economic activities. When the Fire is totally absent, there will be less confidence and less drive for investment activities. This may lead to pessimism in the economy and set back in the stock market. The economic recovery which we experienced in 2022 may slow down. Such an absence of Fire will continue into 2024. Real economic recovery can only arrive by 2025, the year of the Wood-Snake.

Good Stars in 2023

The Rabbit is considered a “Peach Blossom” or “Flower of Romance” which will stimulate entertainment, art, beauty and other romantic business.  Yin Water sitting on Rabbit is also a “Nobleman and Academic star”. This means all babies born in 2023 will have the support of a nobleman in the year pillar and also possess intellectual and innovative qualities. The year pillar represents senior people and ancestral influence. Such quality with both nobleman and academic stars is not so common as there are only two years out of the 60 -year cycle – Yin Fire rooster and Yin Water Rabbit years will have such unique stars. So, 2023 is a good year for childbirth as the next chance will be in 2077 the next Yin Fire Rooster year. A person with such a star in their birth chart may not get high grades at school but they are eager to explore and absorb the knowledge in the field of their interests, so they will be successful in those fields. Today, when high-tech business based on knowledge is paramount, this quality is especially beneficial.

Peach Blossom will bring sex and romance, particularly for people born in the year of Tiger, Horse, Dog or born on the day of Tiger, Horse, Dog. It will stimulate activities such as entertainment, movie, singing, art, and beauty. With Rabbit also an Academic star, there will also be booming cultural developments. However, the “Peach blossom” year is also known to bring sex scandals. Particularly, the Rabbit and the Rat – both are “Flowers of Romance”, are in a penalty relationship, which means trouble and scandals related to romance. The next section will explain this in detail.

To Keep Note of

Since it is Water and Wood year, the Earth’s element becomes relatively weak. So, there can be more Earth disasters. As Fire is totally absent in 2023, this may be a factor contributing to air traffic disasters. In the system of Four Pillars of Destiny, the Rabbit is in a clash against the Rooster and in a penalty relationship with the Rat. The clash is between small Metal (Rooster) and small Wood (Rabbit) as if a metal dagger cuts into the bones. Thus, people who are having a Rooster in their Four Pillars, are likely to suffer from injury to the small bones, particularly in the limbs. The Rabbit is Yin Wood which also symbolizes our neck and backbones. A clash between Rooster and Rabbit may cause backbone and neck problems. When the Rabbit encounters Rat, it creates a bad configuration called Two Penalty, which will bring sex scandals, and sicknesses such as rheumatism and sexual disease.

In the five elements system, Fire is happiness and optimism which prevailed in the previous years of Fire from 2013 to 2017. However, when the year of Dog 2018 arrived, the Fire element entered the grave which brought pessimism and caused a setback in the economic atmosphere. In 2022, the Tiger year brought the Wood which is the seed of Fire. Hence, some positive optimism returned and there had been some recovery in the economy with international travel and entertainment resuming in many countries after 2 gloomy years. However, the Fire element is still not apparent so this is not a permanent recovery. 2023 Water-Rabbit year is pure Wood and Water, and the Fire element is totally absent. So, the sign of economic recovery that appeared in mid-2022 cannot sustain and growth will slow down toward the second half of 2023. The unbalanced elements of the year will indicate a potential economic crisis. But things will start to change from the third quarter as it will be the last year of period eight, and with the arrival of “Age of 9” in 2024, period 9, the fire period, will begin when the Rabbit year ends. This year will be a year of change for everyone. Therefore it is not an excellent year to speculate on finance; therefore, do your due research before investing.

Industries

The Water Rabbit year, with Water-producing Wood, also symbolizes creativity and growth, which injects a lot of creative activities in art. The Rabbit Academic star will not only support culture, art and science but also stimulate entertainment and restaurant businesses due to the presence of “Peach Blossom” and “nobleman” stars.

2023 is expected to bring prosperity to the Metal and Earth industries. This is because Metal conquers Wood, so the Wood element is a symbol of money to the Metal industry, which includes banking, high tech, car, machinery, engineering, beauty and skincare.

The second-best industry would be Earth. As Earth conquers Water so the Water means money to the Earth’s industry. Earth industries are property, mining, insurance and computer software.

The Water industry sees Wood as productivity. So, Water industries will also be benefited from the growth and movement nature of Wood. Water industries are telecommunications, transport and shipping.

The Wood industry is going to face serious competition. Wood industries are textile, media, paper and magazine.

The Fire industry is not likely to make money this year because Metal, which is their money, is absent.

In summary, the industries that will perform better in the year of the Rabbit will be industries related to the Metal and Earth elements.

Nobleman in 2023

The Rabbit year is Nobleman year for people born in Water year or Water day. These are years ending with 2 and 3. Such as 1952, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992, and 1953, 1963, 1973, 1983, and 1993. Nobleman means you can get the right help from someone (known or unknown person) whenever you need it. So just look up and have a glance around when in need and there will be someone lending you their helping hand. Nobleman often brings a solution to troubles and makes the year more comfortable and smoother. People who are having Nobleman in 2023 can take this opportunity to make progress and develop new projects and make good friends and partnerships.

Health & Precautions

There will be an uncivilized punishment relationship between Rabbit and the Rat. This penalty aspect will affect people who have a Rat in any of their Four Pillars. Penalties usually bring disharmony, irritation, worries and frustrations, along with ailments related to the Water and Wood elements, such as kidney disease, diabetes, urinary problems, sexual problems and problems with the fingers, fingers and toes. As both Rat and Rabbit are Peach Blossom stars, the penalty may also bring sex scandal. I know by now you must be curious and anxious to find out whether you have a Rat in your Destiny Chart! Correct? I would say, Relax! You are more likely to experience the above possibilities only if you live an unhealthy lifestyle and have an unusual interest. You won’t have to worry if you maintain stability in your life, practice mindfulness and learn to be satisfied.

Awareness

People who are born in the year of Rooster (2017, 2005, 1993, 1981, 1969, 1957, 1945) are in a clash against this year. Usually, clashes cause turbulence, movements, accidents or changes. These people will usually have more movement and traveling in 2023. So, it is okay to make necessary changes such as moving house, changing offices, changing jobs or taking trips. However, they should take extra precautions and refrain from risky sports such as driving fast cars, flying airplanes, skin diving, parachuting, etc. For people born in the year of the Rooster, it is good to minimize long-distance traveling directly toward the East direction as it is the direction of the Grand Duke in 2023.

The other animal sign facing changes in 2023 is the Rabbit (2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951) which is offending the Grand Duke. Everyone is going to pay attention to what you do. Take the initiative, step out of your comfort zone and lead. As the animal signs can appear in all four pillars in a person’s birth data, the clash and penalty relationship with the Rabbit will not only cause an impact on people born in the year of Rabbit and Rooster. Such clashes and penalties can also impact anyone who has such animals in the birth month, birth day or birth hour.

“Don’t forget, without change, there will be little to no advancement in life! Let it motivate you to achieve your goals, so embrace it and move forward.”

The animals that are combined with the Rabbit year are the Dog, the Pig and the Goat. These animals are in a year of harmony. However, such animal astrology is not totally reliable. For a more reliable assessment of one’s fortune in the year of the Rabbit, it is recommended that one checks all the animals in the full Four Pillars of Destiny.

FengShui

FengShui energies also change from year to year. Therefore, it is necessary to watch out for the reallocation of good and bad energies at the beginning of each year, so that we can take necessary precautions if some bad energy happens to arrive at important locations of our residences and offices.

In the year of the Rabbit, the bad energy called ‘Five Yellows’ – symbolizing obstacles and misfortune, arrives at the Northwest.

Tip: It is recommended that one hangs a metal wind chime in the Northwest of the house after 4th February 2023 on a specific date and time to dissolve this bad energy. The worst months will be in June, August and September 2023.

Star 2, the star of illness, resides in the East this year. Spending time in this sector of your house in 2023 could have detrimental effects on your health. Also, there are chances of fights and disputes if this location is used frequently.

Tip: If your living room, bedroom or kitchen is in this sector, you can use metal items to mitigate its effects. It doesn’t need to be fancy. For example, a bowl of coins would do or hang a string of six metal coins in the affected area.

The ‘Grand Duke this year is in the East, hence it is not favourable to “move the earth” or make substantial construction/renovation work in this location.

It is also not recommended for one to sit with back against West as you will be sitting against the unfavourable energy called ‘Three Killings’.

Note: Hold off any planned renovations in the above-mentioned locations until next year and only begin renovations after carefully selecting a good date if you have to do it this year.

Southwest: This location should only be used by Gua 3 people for scholarly achievements and others should avoid using it in order to stay away from stagnation.

South: Wealth, fame, prosperity and helpful people.

North: Happy events, promotions, mentors, education.

Northeast: Competitive and injury star. Avoid using this location.

Southeast: It has dominant female stars, and sudden changes are expected. You can keep a red object at this location to calm the energy.

In general, the Yin Water Rabbit year, is a symbol of creativity and growth and the atmosphere will be cooling and cautious, and there will be more joyful sentiments bringing back entertainment and traveling, wedding celebrations, musical concerts, business and cultural events. The international tensions and social unrest will still continue as people are in a liberal mood and desire to make more changes. But overall, the world will be comparatively more peaceful with less open war and more chances for negotiation and compromise.
